Fostering Pets with Cinderella Pet Rescue
How long is a pet in foster care?
As Cinderella Pet Rescue is a no-kill organization, pets remain in foster care until they are adopted or relocated to another rescue agency. If you are unable to foster for an extended period of time, simply notify the foster home coordinator, or Director, so arrangements may be made to relocate the pet. If you know you only have a certain amount of time to foster, please make that known prior to accepting a foster pet. If you have travel plans during your fostering period, the foster coordinator will help you make arrangements for pet sitting or boarding at CPR as needed.

What supplies are provided?
Cinderella Pet Rescue will provide whatever the pet needs. For a dog, this may include a crate, bed, bowls, collar, leash, etc. For a cat, this may include a litter box, litter, scratcher, bowls, even a crate if needed, etc. Food is provided for dogs and cats. Monthly meds, such as heartworm prevention and flea/tick

Will my expenses be reimbursed?
Cinderella Pet Rescue provides all veterinary care at our cost. Approval by the Director must be obtained prior to scheduling non-emergency veterinary care. Emergency care must be obtained at the veterinary clinic designated for the pet in care.

Foster parents are expected to provide food and any items they wish the pet to have outside of the initial supplies provided to the foster home by Cinderella Pet Rescue. Expenses will be reimbursed if they were approved prior to the purchase. Receipts must be submitted along with official expense sheet documentation.
Drivers may document their mileage for transports, veterinary runs, adoption interviews, or other approved travel for reimbursement or for tax deduction.

Am I eligible for tax deductions?
A number of tax benefits are available for volunteers under the general charitable contribution deduction of the Internal Revenue Code. Volunteers may deduct unreimbursed out-of-pocket expenses incurred while doing volunteer work for certain groups approved by the Internal Revenue Service. Cinderella Pet Rescue is an approved organization. Please check with your accountant to verify deductions.

How are pets adopted from my home?
All pets fostered must be made available for at least two adoption events per month. The foster parent may drop off the pet to the adoption event and return to pick up the pet at the end of the adoption event. Additionally, the foster parent must be willing to make the pet available to meet potential adopters. These meets may occur in the foster's home, at the Cinderella Pet REScue shelter or at an agreed upon location. Such meets will be coordinated through the Foster Coordinator, the Adoption Coordinator or the Program Director.

Fostering a pet provides numerous benefits, including saving lives, gaining companionship, and contributing to the community while offering a temporary home to animals in need.

Key Benefits of Fostering Pets:
1. Saving Lives: Fostering directly contributes to saving animals from euthanasia in overcrowded shelters. By providing a temporary home, you create space for more animals to be rescued.
2. Short-Term Commitment: Unlike adopting a pet, fostering is often a short-term commitment, allowing you to help animals without the long-term responsibilities of pet ownership. This flexibility makes it easier for people to get involved.
3. Emotional Rewards: Fostering can be incredibly fulfilling. Many foster caregivers report that the experience brings joy and companionship, as well as a sense of purpose from helping animals in need.
4. Socialization and Training: Foster homes provide a less stressful environment for pets, allowing them to develop social skills and receive basic training. This preparation increases their chances of being adopted into permanent homes.
5. Community Connection: Fostering can help you connect with like-minded individuals and organizations. Many rescue groups host events where fosters can meet and share experiences, fostering a sense of community.
6. Educational Opportunities: Fostering allows you to learn about different breeds, behaviors, and care needs, which can enhance your understanding of animal welfare and improve your skills as a pet owner.
7. Health Benefits for Pets: Foster caregivers can provide individualized care, which is especially important for animals with health issues. This attention can lead to improved health outcomes and better overall well-being for the pets.
8. Potential for Adoption: Fostering gives you the option to adopt the pet you are caring for if you find that they are a good fit for your family. This trial period can help ensure a successful long-term match.
9. Fostering pets not only benefits the animals but also enriches the lives of the caregivers, making it a rewarding experience for everyone involved. Whether you are looking to help animals in need or simply want some companionship, fostering can be a great option.
